the creative struggle

I struggled a lot with the anatomy on this painting. Using my friend as a reference helped quite a bit. The background was also something I struggled with.

Here you can see that the original background was dark black. I received criticism on how the piece felt more like a farewell, so I think making the background a bit more colorful helped it read a bit better.

 

This piece was also the most difficult for me to complete energetically- I believe because it was created out of necessity to connect Planetary Passage and The Worlds We Made. As a result it had a lot of redundant elements.

The pink cloud creatures at the bottom are inspired by sea slugs and bunnies. They are my favorite part of this painting!

I used to go to a lot of aquariums and visit the ocean a lot when I was a child. I think that's why there are so many sea creatures in this series and why the ocean inspires my so much.
