ILLUSTRATION PROCESS
First, I draw things out in my sketchbook. For some reason, I find that planning a composition is just so much easier with pencil and paper rather than sketching digitally. Then I take a photo, upload it into my drawing software, Clip Studio Paint. Afterwards, I reduce the opacity to make the sketch less contrasted, this helps me when I digitally redraw my lines to make them more bold and clean. Next, I use selections and a bucket tool to lay down some flat colors quickly underneath my line art layer. Finally, I paint in textures, shadows, and highlights- this includes painting over my black lines so they are not as harsh.
INTERACTIVITY
At first, I was only going to create still images. Then, I stumbled upon a software called Mental Canvas and I thought it would be a great way to add depth and interactivity to my paintings. I also felt that it would be a great way to show case the plethora of details within my illustrations. Furthermore, flowing through all of the paintings within Mental Canvas helps the audience feel that they are also exploring and going through the narrative journey themselves.
