Planetary Passage
and the origami planet
I folded an actual origami boat and crane to use as a reference for this painting. These two objects serve as an important motif throughout the series since I folded them all the time with my mom as a kid.
I originally wanted to have words on the paper boat that I painted. These words would pertain to the actual story itself and say something like, "And so they set out on a perilous journey to find their lost creativity-" but I forgot to add this in when I was painting. You can still see this idea in the sketch though.
When I created this piece, I was working as a motorman for the down town historic trolleys. The character's outfit is based on my work uniform. Rails and a trolley can be seen weaving through cardboard mountains on the bottom right of the painting.

Symbolically, their uniform is what sets the older character apart from the younger version of himself. Later on, as they return to their creative side, they lose their tie and eventually don on a more whimsical outfit.
This painting was heavily inspired by Mario Galaxy.
Meta Materiality
Lemon Boy and the Pinwheel Planet
Some of the planets and land formations in this painting are references to other stories and characters I have created before.
